Artist Statement
I began these pieces with the intention of using the surplus material collected in my home during the time I have lived there. I moved into the home in 2000. The basement was already stocked with various house surplus, trim, pipe, wood lathe, paint, screws ,etc. The supply of material grew by the month as I continued to work as a carpenter, for myself and for several local companies. Waste disposal can be a significant cost to the client and the contractor so I would find myself recovering material that interested me.
I began coalescing these pieces in late summer of 2005. It seemed that the potential of some of the material might be wasted if it was not used soon. The regimen I intended to follow was at least 45 minutes a day spent creating with the supplies I had... My sculptures are improvisational mostly and sometimes systematic. Since summer 2005 I began assembling pieces from material, which I work with daily, material that I find valuable. My supply may be gathered from the job site or off the street, or already present my basement/studio.
This year's crop of creations I tried to use more paint. There is a variety of materials as usual and most would be considered post consumer waste. The interpretation of the sculptures can be attempted from any orientation. I like to use color and shape symbolically but the material and object forms limit over-complication.
This is my third annual show. The first has been cataloged and the catalog is available at

I am presently a union carpenter working for Hadley Exhibits in Buffalo, NY.
Past events
we've been host to several bands, solo musicians, artists, a film festival, and a few local movie productions. We were a host venue for the 2008 Infringement Festival, and look forward to participating in 2009 as well. We'll try to keep this updated to let people know of events before they happen.
